Outlook Contacts - Category issues...
Okay, so here's the deal. This morning I was plugging away on my iMac and updating my contacts following installing the newest OS update from Apple. I looked in my addressbook and it was a MESS! Contacts, categories, YUCK! I love to simplify things so I started looking at how to move categories around and when I could not find what I needed, in a huff I selected everything hit the delete key and thought I'll just let Plaxo import them all again. WRONG ANSWER! The Mac synched with Plaxo and wiped out my entire addressbook with all those categories. Over 1100 contacts from one computer gone bye-bye. I freaked for a microsecond and then realized...I have my PC not synched yet. So I turned the iMac off, corrected everything and have all my contacts back. YAYYYY!!!! Problem - They all have these categories on the PC which break them into multiple addressbooks on the Mac. YIKES!! So I'll just delete all the categories on the PC and resynch. NOPE. Does not work. When you delete the categories, they do not affect NEW entries. So you have all those EXISTING entries that you want to change...You're stuck!! Until NOW!!! Simply Open the Master Category List, Type in the name of the category which is the one you eventually want to delete from all those contacts, Click the checkbox, then unclick it and press APPLY (or OK) and WALLAH!!! Those names will leap from that problematic category into one called simply (none). It's a quick way to get yourself back on track and keep your addressbook cleaner. Some people make these things too hard to do. Oh, by the way, the piece of advice given above was NOT on the Microsoft Website. Strangely enough they do miss things every now and again. ;-) Michael Murdock |
